Poet, Robert Francis |
As summer continues to roll on, I am noticing a few signs of those late summer/early Autumn days. And it is no wonder I do so as I love Autumn best of all.
For my area in northern Indiana the temps will dip into the 50's within the next week which will be welcome after the heat wave we have all experienced.
Another sign for me is the return of the Perseid showers in August. This year is to be a stellar year so I am planning an all night party on August 11...bring your sleeping bags or cots and plan to sleep out under the stars.
Another sign is that the constellation, Orion, is also peeking out among the constellations.
I love all of these signs of nature. I love being tuned into it as it helps rule my own life and keep it in perspective.
Robert Francis wrote a marvelous poem, Summons, which I am sharing with you here. It always makes me think of Autumn.
As always, thank you for reading...
Lou Ann
Keep me from going to sleep too soon
Or if I go to sleep too soon
Come wake me up. Come any hour
Of night. Come whistling up the road.
Stomp on the porch. Bang on the door.
Make me get out of bed and come
And let you in and light a light.
Tell me the northern lights are on
And make me look. Or tell me clouds
Are doing something to the moon
They never did before, and show me.
See that I see. Talk to me till
I'm half as wide awake as you
And start to dress wondering why
I ever went to bed at all.
Tell me the walking is superb.
Not only tell me but persuade me.
You know I'm not too hard persuaded.
Or if I go to sleep too soon
Come wake me up. Come any hour
Of night. Come whistling up the road.
Stomp on the porch. Bang on the door.
Make me get out of bed and come
And let you in and light a light.
Tell me the northern lights are on
And make me look. Or tell me clouds
Are doing something to the moon
They never did before, and show me.
See that I see. Talk to me till
I'm half as wide awake as you
And start to dress wondering why
I ever went to bed at all.
Tell me the walking is superb.
Not only tell me but persuade me.
You know I'm not too hard persuaded.

Love the poem!!! Have a wonderful day, Lou Ann!
Was this poem new to you? I learned it years ago...I love reciting it outside under the stars.
